Adding, “It all makes it so much easier to 3D print!”ġ23D Design added more features in 2015. For instance, in the second half of 2013, the company introduced a new version.ĭescribing the new version, Tatiana of the 3D platform i. says, “You can now round and bevel edges, create a shell … or pull faces out of any part. Over the years, Autodesk was adding new features to 123D Design. One of the most popular applications in the 123D suite was 123D Design. The tools provided rudimentary shapes and sample models that users could begin the design process with. The tools offered by the 123D suite enabled users to create and edit designs without the need to first acquire intricate computer-aided design (CAD) skills. The main advantage of Autodesk’s is that it made it possible for users to connect with various other 3D-related services, including 3D printing and laser cutting, and a community of other makers. To make a software product that could create physical objects from designs using 3D printing technology, Autodesk collaborated with three companies: 3D Systems, Ponoko, and TechShop. The site also provided a place to access the latest tools and information about 3D printing. The suite included tools like 123D Design, 123D Sculpt+, 123D Catch, and 123D Make. Hanna says, “We believe that everyone is creative, and we intend to put easy to use design software in the hands of millions of people so they can create real objects, have fun doing it and then fabricate the things they want and need, just the way they want them.” The Serviceġ allowed users to download the 123D suite for free. When was established, the company indicated that its “mission to provide access to the tools to help you take your concept and make it reality.” It told users, “This is your home for useful tools for making things for giving shape to that idea you have, exploring it, and most importantly, making it.”Ī press release announcing the availability of Autodesk 123D on iPad, Mac, PC, or a web browser quotes Samir Hanna, vice president of Consumer Products at Autodesk. The American multinational software corporation, Autodesk, established in 2011. Likewise any user of the app has the option to share their creations with the autodesk community via Autodesk's built-in sharing functionality. What Then Happened to ? The History of The 3D models created by Catch can be used in a number of ways such as 3D printing.Ĭatch offers users the ability to view, comment on, rate, and download other users models. Finally after they model is created it is downloaded to the user's device for viewing and editing. Once all of the images are saved they are uploaded to autodesk servers so they can be stitched together and a 3D model can be made. Autodesk recommends taking between 30 and 40 pictures to create a well rounded model but when photographing larger subjects the user can take up to 70 pictures to give greater detail to the model. If the user is trying to create a 3D model of something with complex features they can take close up pictures on those areas to give better definition to the resulting model. To create a 3D model in Catch the user should find a subject that can be easily photographed from many angles in good light. The program is available for Windows, an app exists in the play store for Android, app store for iOS, and Windows Phone store. With the creation of an Autodesk account, users can also export their newly created models to further manipulate in popular 3D modeling software. Catch can be used to create 3D models of people, places, and things. It does this by stitching together the images with common visual structures automatically, then asking the user to help connect points that could not be determined through software. Catch uses photogrammetry technology to create a 3D model out of multiple pictures taken by the user.
